BOGART, Ga. — Efforts to legalize captive deer breeding in new states or loosen regulations in states where such practices are currently permitted were overwhelmingly defeated during the 2012 legislative session. Of nine bills being tracked by the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA), seven were unsuccessful, two remain stalled in committee, and only one has become law. Read more

Getting ready for hunting season always seems to be a seasonal ritual. Annually, many hunters get the hunting firearm out of its storage place, grab some ammo, and shoot just enough rounds to perforate a few paper targets and declare, “Good enough.” But, that style of “preparation” has a way of developing excuses afield, where there are no do-overs or instant replays to analyze. Washington, D.C. – The push by Pheasants Forever and other conservation groups in support of “Sodsaver” – strengthened federal protections for native grasslands – received a boost yesterday with the introduction of a “Sodsaver” bill, the Protect our Prairies Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives by Kristi Noem (R-SD) and Tim Walz (D-MN). If enacted, the policy would help conserve native prairie habitats, most notably in the Dakotas, while saving nearly $200 million in federal spending. Read more

The Humane Society of the United States has many “fronts” that work to ban hunting while at the same time raking in money and other commodities from the unsuspecting public. One such front is The Wildlife Land Trust (HSWLT). This “trust” is actually a covert affiliate that sways landowners into thinking that their donation of land, easements, or dollars helps wildlife – that is far from the truth. Read more
