When predators are taking food from the mouths of Alaskans, officials step up. A total of 89 black bears and grizzlies were killed to provide 2 tons of meat to residents, while attempting to give young moose a chance to grow up. It’s called wildlife management and it benefits humans. Details here…
The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners will hear a petition this Friday, February 1st, seeking to ban the hunting of bears with hounds in the state. Nevada sportsmen are encouraged to attend the meeting and to submit comments to the Commissioners supporting bear hunting with hounds. Read more

As Michigan’s black bear season approaches, the Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters that the 2012 bear management cooperator patches are available from the Michigan Bear Hunters Association (MBHA). Read more
In 2010, two Michigan men used trained hunting dogs to help Todd Yoder, an American Indian who was allowed to hunt for bear a month beyond the normal hunting season. Turns out, it wasn’t against the law. The story is here…
Steve West, of Steve’s Outdoor Adventures TV, reported to the staff of CVA that he has taken what should be a new muzzleloader world record grizzly bear with his CVA Accura V2 muzzleloading rifle. Steve shot the bear in British Columbia on June 1st, but just reached civilization on June 9th where he was able to report the kill via an email. Read more
A Faribanks hunter, Rodd Moretz, had killed a bear and then came too close to a bear den and was attacked from the den but was fortunate to escape. More here…

“I would never knowingly break any game laws,” said Ted Nugent. “I’m afraid I was blindsided by this, and I sincerely apologize to everyone for this.”
Said Magistrate Judge Michael Thompson “It (the “one-strike policy) probably is not widely known, and if there is a side benefit to the agreement reached here today – since apparently newspapers are interested in Mr. Nugent and his doings – this probably will serve to alert a great many hunters to that very issue and may, in fact, prevent violations in the future and court activity for a whole slew of folks.”

Ted Nugent, who signed a plea agreement April 14, agreed to pay a $10,000 fine and has agreed to a two-year probation, including a special condition that he not hunt or fish in Alaska or Forest Service properties for one year. He also agreed to create a public service announcement that would be broadcast on his television show for one year. The court hearing on the matter is today. More here…

Here is a warning to California hunters from the Western Outdoor News (www.wonews.com) that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) appears to be commencing a campaign against California’s hunting dogs. HSUS is supporting SB 1221, a bill that would ban the hunting of bears and bobcats with dogs. Read more
