Brownells Donates to Iowa Valley Community College Gunsmithing Program

Brownells – The World’s Largest Supplier of Firearms Accessories, Ammunition and Gunsmithing Tools™ – is proud to announce its support of the newly created Iowa Valley Community College’s Gunsmithing Technology program, located in Grinnell, Iowa.
On Tuesday, July 9, 2013, Brownells’ CEO Pete Brownell (right) presented a check for $75,000 to MaryAnne Nickle, (left) Dean of Iowa Valley Grinnell, and Gunsmithing Instructor Dave Bennetts, (center) a former Brownells Gun Tech. New App Targets Gun Owners

This week’s outrage comes to us from a rather unlikely source:  the Google Play app store.  The new app is called the Gun Geo Marker, and encourages users to “geolocate dangerous guns and owners” in their communities. According to Google Play, “Geolocation means marking dangerous sites on the App’s map so that you and others can be aware of the risks in your neighborhood.”

Think about that for a minute.  The purpose of the app–other than sensationalism and profit–is to encourage people to anonymously “flag” locations in their community they subjectively deem “dangerous” and to make that information as public as possible.  The probability for abuse and the certainty of inaccurate “reporting” cannot be overstated. Illinois Legislators Override Quinn’s Veto of Concealed Carry Law

The Illinois House of Representatives spent little time yesterday in voting 77-31 to override anti-gun Governor Pat Quinn’s “amendatory veto” of concealed carry legislation. The Senate held considerable debate, but ultimately voted 41-17 to override Quinn, paving the way for concealed carry. The vote is seen as a serious political setback for Quinn and his attempt to make significant changes to the law passed last week. Read more

Ruger Announces Pending Purchase of Third Manufacturing Facility

SOUTHPORT, Conn.–Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR) announces that it plans to open its third manufacturing plant, a 220,000 square foot facility in Mayodan, North Carolina. This will be the Company’s first major expansion in over 25 years and it is expected to be finalized in August.
The Company currently employs over 2,000 people in its two plants in Newport, New Hampshire and Prescott, Arizona.
