New Muzzy Trocar Switch Broadhead

SUPERIOR, Wis. (May 16, 2016) — Muzzy Outdoors, the makers of the world’s number-one selling fixed-blade broadhead, introduced the Trocar broadhead three years ago, and with its field-point-like accuracy and unbelievably lethal performance on game, the Trocar quickly became one of the company’s hottest selling and most successful broadhead designs. This year, Muzzy has created a new addition to the Trocar lineup with the introduction of the company’s first adjustable-cutting-diameter broadhead, the Trocar Switch. The Trocar Switch features three razor-sharp 0.035-inch-thick blades that can be quickly and easily positioned in one of three settings for a 1-inch, 1 1/8-inch or 1 1/4-inch cutting diameter. The three configurations provide the hunter with extreme flexibility to customize the broadhead to the hunt or to the most-accurate bow setup. Where a bowhunter might choose the 1 1/4-inch blade placement for shorter shots in thick brush, the hunter may choose the 1-inch placement for increased accuracy, stability and penetration at shooting distances nearing 100 yards or when hunting large-bodied game animals. MI DNR seeks information on Kalkaska County bear poaching

Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers are seeking information on a bear poaching incident in southwest Kalkaska County. On April 30, a recreational river user found a large black bear carcass in the Manistee River near Rainbow Jim’s Bridge Boat Launch, a DNR-managed boating access site near Coster Road in Springfield Township, located approximately 6 miles southeast of Fife Lake. The river user contacted the DNR Report All Poaching (RAP) Line to report the deceased bear.

According to Sgt. Jeremy Payne, conservation officers responded to the location. After a metal detector confirmed metal within the bear, its carcass was taken off-site and a necropsy – an autopsy of an animal – was performed by DNR conservation officers. The necropsy revealed the 500-pound male black bear died from a shotgun wound during the last week of April.

“Anyone who has information that may assist us in finding the person or persons responsible for the poaching of this bear is asked to contact the DNR,” said Sgt. Jeremy Payne. Read more

Black bear killed in Wexford County, MI determined to be bear that mauled Cadillac-area teen

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced today that a black bear recently shot and killed in Haring Township, north of Cadillac in Wexford County, is the same bear that mauled a teenage girl, Abby Wetherell, in that same township in 2013.

The DNR confirms a 9-year-old female black bear was killed April 30 by an individual, who wishes to remain anonymous, acting in self-defense. The individual let out a dog, which then immediately ran after what appeared to be a bear cub. The dog was stopped at the end of the tree line barking when the owner saw a bear appear and attack the dog. The individual went to assist the dog and the bear ran off. As the owner attempted to render aid to the injured dog, the bear retuned to the scene and approached the resident who then shot the bear. The situation was reported to the DNR and investigated. It was determined to be a justifiable killing of the bear. Read more
