Oakwood Controls Introduces Weatherproof H-Bar Electronic Target System

York, PA — Oakwood Control’s has introduced a weatherproof model of its Portable H-Bar Target System. This system was designed for professionals, as well as enthusiasts, that need instant feedback on long-range shooting in a portable package.

Part of Oakwood’s “open air” target family, the H-Bar scores live fires hits and misses in a large detection window. This allows shooters to use the target system at long distances without having perfect ballistic data and eliminates concerns with missing or damaging a traditional “box target”.

Oakwood’s target system utilizes a standard laptop, located at the firing line, and shows precise locations of hits and misses along with group size and center of the group location. All shot and group information can be displayed in inches, centimeters, MOA and MIL. QDMA Supports New York Bills to Increase Poaching Penalties

GW:  Disgusting for sure.  Michigan has just increased poaching penalties, and as far as I’m concerned, they could be much higher – especially if a youngster is induced to cooperate with a perverted mentor.  And, when I think about how much a private property owner/wildlife manager puts into habitat improvements, etc., it makes me grit my teeth. 

This New York buck, estimated to be 5.5 years old by hunters on a 1,700-acre QDM Cooperative in Washington County, was shot by a poacher at night from a public road in late October 2013. The poacher took the head and abandoned the rest of the buck in the ditch. QDMA staff biologist Matt Ross (pictured here) lives nearby and helped start the Cooperative.

The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) supports New York Senate Bill 4727 and Assembly Bill A7171, which would increase the penalties for the illegal taking of deer and help reduce the number of unlawful activities with respect to white-tailed deer poaching. QDMA believes Senate Bill 4727 and Assembly Bill A7171 would benefit the state of New York, its wildlife and citizenry.

Oklahoma Game Warden Shoots Man Who Tried to Drown Him

Adair County — An Oklahoma state wildlife officer approached three people fishing in the Bunch area. The officer asked to see their fishing licenses and learned one of the three had a warrant out of Arkansas for a parole violation. As the officer attempted to take the man into custody, that man began to fight with the officer.

The men fell into a pond where the suspect tried to hold the officer’s head under water. The officer fought his way above the water and shot the suspect. The man died at the scene. The wildlife officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The chief of the Wildlife Department requested OSBI investigate the officer-involved shooting. Numerous investigative and crime scene agents are on the scene interviewing witnesses and documenting the scene. The Adair County Sheriff’s Office is also assisting.

The OSBI will not release the name of the officer who killed the suspect unless he is arrested or charged with a crime. The name of the deceased man will be released once his next of kin has been notified. OSBI will prepare a comprehensive report for the district attorney to review. The district attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.

Clay Targets at DNR Shooting Ranges

Come out to hone your clay target shooting skills at the DNR’s Ortonville, Pontiac Lake, Rose Lake and Sharonville shooting ranges! The clay target throwers will be available on Sundays beginning May 3 through the month of August. The range staff will load the throwers for your pulling. The Dansville range will NOT have clay target throwers available.

The Ortonville and Pontiac Lake range hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Rose Lake, Sharonville and Dansville range hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last shot is fired at 4:45 p.m. The ranges are open Thursday through Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday, except for Dansville, which is open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  Read more
