Safety Recall Notice Issued for Certain Walther PK380 Pistols

During an internal quality review, Carl Walther GmbH has identified a condition that may exist in certain PK380 pistols which may permit a round to be discharged if the trigger is pulled, despite engagement of the manual safety. Walther has found that engagement of the manual safety may not prevent firing of a chambered round when the trigger is pulled.
This recall applies to Walther PK380, .380 ACP pistols manufactured by Carl Walther GmbH from May through September 2012, which have a serial number range from PK101201 to PK112155.

Help Repeal Handgun Registration in Michigan

House Bill 5225, legislation that would eliminate the state handgun “permit-to-purchase” and registration   requirements, is currently stalled in the Michigan Senate. The reason for this delay stems from opposition by the Michigan State Police, as well as Governor Rick Snyder’s office, asking Senate leadership to “hold” HB 5225. The Michigan State Police, never friendly to pro-gun reforms, including the current state Right-to-Carry law, has even proposed a number of crippling amendments to HB 5225 that would perpetuate Michigan’s antiquated registration system in the event that they are unable to stop its passage. Ten Young Hunters Selected for QDMA National Youth Hunt

All 10 spots have been filled for the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) National Youth Hunt, QDMA’s signature youth event that will be held on a 35,000-acre farm in southern Georgia on Oct. 25-28.

Each youth was selected from a pool of nominees with the intention of introducing new hunters to the world of white-tailed deer hunting. Youth who will participate in the 2012 Youth Hunt will represent Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. Read more

Rose Lake Shooting Range Temporary Closure

The Department of Natural Resources regrets to inform you that the Rose Lake handgun range berm work will require a one-day closure of the rifle/pistol range on Monday, October 8. The work is necessary to enhance safety at the range. The range will reopen to the public on Wednesday, October 10. The trap and archery ranges will remain open to the public. Straight-wall Cartridge Bill Moves Forward

GW:  Good to see this common-sense legislation moving forward.  There are sure to be more adequately suited firearms available to youngsters and old timers alike, thus aiding in deer hunting participation.

House Bill 5249 – Passed by House Sep 27th: The bill would allow the use of certain specific rifles during the regular firearm deer season in the area that is currently restricted to only shotguns, muzzleloaders, and certain types of pistols. Read more

The 9thannual Perry Youth Hunt Extravaganza is history, and from the results of the turnout, the kids are getting away from their smart phones and computers and getting into the woods.  And, since that’s the whole idea, it’s time to give credit to those insightful lawmakers that have eased the restrictions to hunt.
