New Orleans Officers Sentenced in Danziger Bridge Shooting

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department announced today that five officers from the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) were sentenced in connection with the federal civil rights prosecution of a police-involved shooting that occurred on the Danziger Bridge in the days after Hurricane Katrina, leaving two innocent civilians dead and four others seriously wounded. The defendants were also sentenced for their roles in an extensive cover-up of the shooting. Read more

Idaho Wolf Trapper Offends Critics

Anja Heister, executive director for Footloose Montana, a Missoula-based  nonprofit organization trying to ban trapping in Montana, says a trapper’s decision to pose  for a photograph crosses ethical boundaries and is inhumane.

In response, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game  completed an investigation into the incident and concluded that the trapper did not commit any  legal violations.

Michigan Marks Conservation Officer’s Death

Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) is honoring a conservation officer who died in the line of duty over 100 years ago.

Today marks the anniversary of the discovery of the body of Deputy Game Warden Frank S. Wilson in a wooded area near Leelanau. He was found with two bullet holes in his head. Read more
