Michigan is Hiring for Short-Term, Part-Time and Full-Time Jobs

GOA, GOF File Petition with SCOTUS in NY Concealed Carry Lawsuit

Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) petitioned for writ of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court in their challenge to New York’s mistakenly named “Concealed Carry Improvement Act.”

This sweeping law was passed in Albany after the Supreme Court rebuked the state’s may-issue concealed carry permitting scheme. But frustratingly, this new statute is more onerous and restrictive than the one overturned in the Bruen decision.

GOA quickly challenged this new law after its passage in federal court, where Judge Glenn Suddaby repeatedly sided with GOA by blocking several of its major provisions. Frustratingly, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals was eager to intervene on behalf of anti-gunners, keeping much of the challenged law in place, which has led to today’s filing with the Supreme Court.

The law’s provisions that are still in effect require applicants for a concealed carry license to:

    • Display “good moral character”
    • Have in person interviews with law enforcement
    • Provide four “character references”
    • Undergo 18 hours of combined training, a tremendous increase from the existing 4-hour requirement

CMP Offers Long Range Rifle Match at Camp Perry in June – Featuring Electronic Targets

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) will host a Long Range Rifle Match, June 29-30, 2024, at Camp Perry in Ohio. Rifle categories offered during the event include Match (Any and Iron Sights), Service, Palma, AR Tactical, F-Open and F T/R. The event is open to any adult or junior with a Long Range rifle, regardless of experience.

“We’re trying to add Long Range opportunities to as many events as possible, with the hopes of growing our program and bringing new competitors and Long Range interest to the CMP,” said Sara Rozanski, CMP highpower rifle coordinator.

For the first time, the 1,000-yard event will be fired on CMP’s line of outdoor electronic targets. The targets include monitors at each firing point that instantly display accurate shot scores, creating a more leisurely experience for individuals on the firing line.

“We would like to start using our line of electronic targets for the annual National Long Range events at Camp Perry in the near future, and these smaller matches are a great way to slowly work out any issues we may encounter,” Rozanski added. “With the addition of electronic targets, we’re hoping to encourage more individuals to give Long Range a try.” Read more

Late Winter Mallard Estimates Remain Lowest in 15 Years

In the final aerial survey of the 2023-24 waterfowl season, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists estimated a Delta mallard population that was more than a half-million mallards below the 2009-2024 late January long-term average and the lowest late January survey estimate on record since the 2010 start of transect-based surveys. Also, total duck population estimates were nearly 480,000 birds below the long-term average, largely due to the low number of mallards.

On average, mallards account for about 55 percent of all ducks in the Delta during late January surveys. During this survey period, however, mallards made up only 33 percent of the total duck estimate. Read more

Ninth Circuit Denies En Banc Hearing in Junior Sports Case

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation is cheering the decision by a 9th Circuit Court panel to deny the State of California an en banc hearing in a case known as Junior Sports Magazines, Inc. v. Bonta, in which the state tried to prohibit firearm advertising which it claims, “reasonably appears to be attractive to minors.”

SAF is joined in the case by Junior Sports Magazines, the California Youth Shooting Sports Association, Redlands California Youth Clay Shooting Sports, California Rifle & Pistol Association, CRPA Foundation, Gun Owners of California and Raymond Brown, a private citizen.
