Boone and Crockett Big Game Awards to be Held July 21-23 at Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Boone and Crockett Club’s 31st Big Game Awards will be held next summer, July 21-23, in Springfield, Missouri, at Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium. The event recognizes the biggest heads, horns, and antlers from North America entered into the Boone and Crockett Club’s record book during the last three years. In early 2022, select hunters will be invited to submit their top scoring trophies in each category for panel judging and display.

The judges panel will convene in late April to verify scores of invited trophies, which will then be placed on display in Wonders of Wildlife’s “Bucks and Bulls Hall” from May 1 through the Awards ceremony. Hosted by Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, and Wonders of Wildlife, the 31st Big Game Awards will include three days of recognition events and opportunities to tour the awards program display, all culminating in the gala awards banquet on Saturday, July 23.

“We are very excited to partner with Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s and the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium to host the 31st Big Game Awards next July,” commented Tony A. Schoonen, chief executive officer of the Boone and Crockett Club. “This event only happens every three years and it is a true tribute to the fair chase hunters who found such success in the field. With this year’s event coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the National Collection of Heads and Horns, we will be honoring the history of wildlife conservation that continues to support the healthy wildlife populations that make these successes possible.” Read more

RICHMOND, Va. (Dec.14, 2021) — German Precision Optics (GPO), USA is setting the bar in the laser rangefinding binocular category with the introduction of its new RANGEGUIDE™ 8×32 and 10x32s. They are the most compact high quality premium rangefinding binoculars in the world.

Standing just 5.4 inches tall, one might assume that the GPO RANGEGUIDE™ is just a compact binocular, but it not only lives up to its optical performance; it can accurately range targets out to 3,062 yards with inclination/declination compensation, while tipping the scales at a mere 24.3 ounces. The magnesium frame is to thank for much of the light weight, but the small footprint of the internal laser rangefinding engine is the RANGEGUIDE’s most prevalent feature. Read more

Michigan: time to check trees for hemlock woolly adelgids

Invasive pest already confirmed in five southwest Michigan counties

Hemlock woolly adelgids, tiny invasive insects that suck nutrients from hemlock trees, are known to be present in Allegan, Ottawa, Muskegon, Oceana and Mason counties.

State agency staff, university researchers and regional cooperative invasive species management areas have been working to identify and contain infestations that span across public and private lands.

This winter, the Michigan departments of Natural Resources and Agriculture and Rural Development encourage those who have eastern hemlock trees on their property, whether in known infested counties or elsewhere, to take time to inspect the trees for signs of hemlock woolly adelgid.

If untreated, hemlock woolly adelgids can kill hemlock trees in four to 10 years. Trees can be protected with proper insecticide treatments. Read more

Primary Arms Launches New Build Your Own Upper Program for Affordable Customized AR-15 Uppers

HOUSTON, TEXAS – Primary Arms® has unveiled the ‘Build Your Own Upper’ Program for online retail customers, allowing users to select their favorite handguard and muzzle device for a complete pre-built upper receiver.

Many AR-15 owners, especially new or prospective gun-owners, do not yet have the tools or technical experience to confidently build their own AR-15 upper. The Build Your Own Upper program is the perfect option for AR-15 enthusiasts looking to get their favorite configuration hand-built by professional armorers and gunsmiths. This process is made simple with Primary Arms’ Build Your Own Upper system. To get started, customers add one of several specially marked barreled uppers, which come in a variety of configurations to match their needs. Then, the customer selects a handguard and muzzle device of their choice. Once they check out, their selection is passed to an expert team of builders, who will assemble the upper, guarantee its quality, and test-fire it.

By combining this streamlined process with enhanced customization, Primary Arms can save firearms enthusiasts both their time and money. Rather than spending extra on a complete upper and then paying a separate gunsmith to install custom parts, Primary Arms is giving shoppers exactly what they want—straight to their door.

“Many custom AR-15 services are too cost-prohibitive, and without building experience, many gun-owners are left purchasing items only to immediately replace parts,” says Matt Okun, Primary Arms Senior Merchandising Manager. “Our Build Your Own Upper program helps these customers get their ideal upper without spending their budget on unwanted parts or costly gunsmithing. It’s the perfect option for anyone who doesn’t have the tooling or experience to assemble their own AR-15.” Read more
