Pope and Young Club Convenes Special Panel for Potential Velvet World Record Non-Typical Mule Deer

Chatfield, MN – The Pope and Young Club has announced the formation of a Special Panel to verify the potential velvet World Record non-typical mule deer taken by Justin Gordon in LaPlata County, Colorado, on September 2nd, 2018. The preliminary score of Justin’s mule deer is 338 7/8″. Justin’s incredible buck has 28 points on the right side and 19 points on the left. The Special Panel to measure this potential velvet World Record buck will convene on October 28th in Lehi, Utah.

The P&Y Club Board of Directors voted unanimously to recognize velvet World Record categories in June of 2020. If the Special Panel verifies Justin’s mammoth non-typical mule deer, it would be the first velvet non-typical mule deer World Record recognized by the Pope and Young Club.

Winchester Delivers First Lake City AAP Shipment to the U.S. Warfighter

EAST ALTON, Ill. — Winchester announces its first shipment of ammunition to the U.S. government left the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant yesterday.

Semitrailers filled with 50 caliber and 5.56 ammunition are bound for destinations around the globe in support of the U.S. Warfighter.

“This is an important milestone for Winchester, our first shipment to the U.S. government after just assuming management and operational control of Lake City,” said Brett Flaugher, president of Winchester. “Our ability to execute through this transition process and make our first delivery within two weeks is a testament to our dedicated work force.”

The U.S. Army selected Winchester to operate and manage the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in September 2019. The contract has an initial term of seven years and may be extended by the U.S. Army for up to three additional years. Winchester is now the world’s largest small arms ammunition manufacturer. Richmond Campaign Targets Illegal Gun Purchases

NSSF, ATF, DOJ Emphasize ‘Don’t Lie for the Other Guy’

NEWTOWN, Conn. – RICHMOND, Va. — As part of an ongoing national effort to help prevent illegal “straw” purchases of firearms, the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are reminding the Richmond public that stiff penalties are in place for individuals convicted of such unlawful purchases. The campaign is in its’ 20th year and is a cornerstone of the cooperative relationship of the firearm industry, law enforcement and retailers.

Cooler temps mean it’s time to start pruning oaks

Colder temperatures this weekend mean it’s time to start pruning oak trees with minimal to no risk of spreading oak wilt. The best way to prevent the spread of oak wilt is to prune during the tree(s) during dormant season.

“There have been a few days in a row that were at or near freezing and with the weekend forecast the risk of oak wilt is very minimal,” says Tivon Feeley DNR Forest Health Program Leader. “For that reason, we suggest that you start pruning your oak tree now until about the first of March.” Read more
