Wyoming Super Tag Raffles

Hunters Support Wildlife with Chance for Ultimate Hunting Adventure

Financial demands for wildlife conservation continue to grow as new challenges emerge.  Chronic wasting disease, hunter recruitment, and invasive species were not major issues a generation ago.

Hunters have stepped up and have made huge contributions to addressing these problems through their support of the Wyoming Super Tag hunting license raffles.  The Wyoming Super Tag has raised over $4.6 million for wildlife conservation and big game management in Wyoming since its establishment in 2014.  Over $1.14 million was raised in 2019 alone.

The Super Tag raffle includes ten license drawings, one each for bighorn sheep, moose, elk, mountain goat, wild bison, deer, antelope, mountain lion, grey wolf, and black bear.  For the separate Super Tag Trifecta raffle, one winner chooses any three species from those offered. Raffle winners are able to hunt any open area for the species selected except for moose and bison (areas with 10 or fewer licenses are restricted) and bighorn sheep (areas with 8 or fewer licenses are restricted).

The hunting industry has also contributed.  Every time a hunter purchases five or more Super Tag tickets or two or more Trifecta tickets they are entered into a raffle to win over $16,000 worth of gear from First Lite, Weatherby, Swarovski Optik, Maven, Hoyt, Stone Glacier, Gunwerks, Meindl USA, and HuntWise.  Additionally, hunters who purchase Super Tag tickets in June are also automatically entered into win a Christensen Arms Mesa rifle with a Crimson Trace scope provided by Wyoming Sportsman’s Warehouse stores.

The deadline to purchase Super Tag tickets is July 1, 2020.  Super Tag ticket are $10, Trifecta tickets $30.  Tickets can be only purchased on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s website.

BoatUS Says FCC’s Message to Boaters and Those Relying on GPS: ‘Tough Luck’

SPRINGFIELD, Va. – The nation’s largest advocacy, services and safety group for recreational boaters, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS), says an April 22 decision by the Federal Communications Commission to give mobile satellite services operator Ligado Networks, a private equity company, the green light to build and operate a land-based industrial 5G (fifth generation) wireless network will negatively impact the reliability of the nation’s Global Positioning System and harm boating safety.

Ligado’s slice of licensed “L-Band” spectrum designated for space-based navigation and communications is located near lower frequency bands used by hundreds of millions of GPS units used in public safety, health, government, transportation, military, commerce, agriculture and more. A founding member of the recently launched Keep GPS Working Coalition, BoatUS believes that as the Ligado network is rolled out, instances of signal interference will increase. This will give current GPS users no choice but to either purchase new GPS units or potentially suffer continued interference. The loss of a GPS signal at a critical moment is a significant safety concern for any vessel operator relying on this popular and widely used technology.

The coalition said that FCC’s decision disregarded mountains of evidence highlighting the interference issue, ignored established technical standards, relied only on limited studies with vague and impractical criteria to access interference, and was made during the COVID-19 pandemic when a final decision was circulated only among the five FCC commissioners as stakeholders were dealing with the health crisis.

The commission also ignored serious concerns from the federal government as well as agencies including the departments of Defense, Transportation, Commerce, Interior, Justice and Homeland Security, as well as NASA, the National Science Foundation, Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Coast Guard. BHA Rewards Hunter who Reported Illegal Wilderness Helicopter

MISSOULA, Mont. – Backcountry Hunters & Anglers has issued a reward to John Morris, the Montana horseman who recently captured images of a pilot using a private helicopter to access a fishing hole in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. Morris’s photos resulted in the pilot’s conviction, qualifying him for a monetary award via BHA’s Reward Fund.

The million-acre Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana is the flagship of the National Wilderness System. Under the federal Wilderness Act, motorized and wheeled vehicles, including motorbikes, ATVs, snowmobiles are prohibited, and aircraft are limited to specific airstrips. Aircraft are required to stay 2000 feet above the ground when flying over wilderness areas. That overflight rule also applies to Wild & Scenic Rivers, which includes the South Fork of the Flathead.

Morris was hunting black bear by horseback in the upper South Fork of the Flathead Valley in the Bob when he saw a low-flying helicopter land on a gravel bar and two individuals fishing.

“My family has enjoyed the solitude of the Bob for three generations now,” said Morris, of Kalispell. “Witnessing a helicopter illegally landed on the South Fork completely degraded my experience. In my mind, for me, that place will never be the same.” Read more

CCRKBA SAYS MILLIONS OF NEW GUN OWNERS WILL RESHAPE 2A BATTLE

BELLEVUE, WA – The recent gun-buying surge that began with the COVID-19 pandemic panic and continued through the civil unrest and riots following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody has created millions of new gun owners who will now eagerly protect their right to protect themselves and their loved ones, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms predicts.

“Look at all of the new people who suddenly decided to exercise their Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms,” observed CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “We’ve witnessed something that is nothing short of a sea change, and in some cases might approach the level of epiphany, about gun ownership. We’ve heard anecdotal reports from all over the country about people flocking to gun shops who had never before owned a firearm. Now that they are gun owners, we expect them to be very protective of their rights.” Read more

Savage Rifles in 300 PRC

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts –– When the Department of Defense began looking for a long-range sniper round that produced consistent results with lighter recoil and less muzzle flash, Hornady’s 300 PRC quickly rose to the top. Now Savage has chambered several rifles in the outstanding new caliber that allow hunters and marksmen to make the most of the new round.

“The 300 PRC has opened up new possibilities for extreme long range shooting,” Jessica Treglia, Sr. Brand Manager at Savage Arms, said. “There’s no better platform for the round than a Savage. With their AccuTriggers and AccuStocks, Savage rifles offer the rugged stability needed for reliable accuracy at any distance.”

While 300 PRC is capable of exceptional accuracy, the round is not simply a paper-puncher. The true potential of the 300 PRC comes from the intentional pairing of heavy .30 caliber bullets with non-belted cases and temperature-stable powders. The 300 PRC’s projectiles achieve repeatable accuracy thanks to their high ballistic coefficients. The 30-degree shoulder of the case provides stable chamber alignment, while the non-belted cases stack efficiently and feed reliably from magazines. The combination allows for fast follow-up shots. Hornady 4DOF Ballistics App Now Communicates with Terrapin X

(Grand Island, Nebr.) — Users of the Hornady 4DOF® (4 Degrees of Freedom) Ballistic Calculator App can now obtain trajectory solutions even faster with connectivity to the Terrapin X laser rangefinder.

Hornady 4DOF® provides more accurate trajectories than standard ballistic calculators, even at extreme ranges. Trajectory solutions are based on projectile drag coefficient (not ballistic coefficient), along with exact physical modeling of the projectile, its mass and aerodynamic properties.

The app — used successfully by hundreds of thousands of shooters — works even in areas lacking wireless connectivity.

Now Terrapin X users can send range, inclination and azimuth directly to the 4DOF® app via Bluetooth — eliminating the need to enter that data by hand. Values are instantly updated within 4DOF®, providing accurate and fast ballistic solutions.

“Using the Terrapin X laser rangefinder in conjunction with the 4DOF® app allows the user to simply range the target and be provided an instant and accurate shooting solution,” Hornady ballistician Jayden Quinlan said. “Range, inclination and azimuth are important inputs the user can now supply the app in one push of a button.” Read more
