The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in March affirmed the constitutionality of Congress’ removal of wolves from the federal endangered species list. The deadline to appeal that decision passed quietly this week with no action from plaintiff animal rights and anti-hunting groups. Read more

After twice petitioning the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ban lead in traditional hunting ammunition—and after being twice previously denied—the Center for Biological Diversity is back at it. In early June the CBD was joined by six environmental groups in suing the EPA for refusing to ban lead in traditional ammunition. Two months earlier the EPA denied CBD’s second petition requesting regulations banning traditional ammunition. Read more
MISSOULA, Mont.Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) today offered a package of sportsmen?s bills in an amendment to the Farm Bill legislation. One piece of the amendment guarantees funding for improving hunter access to existing public lands. This bipartisan amendment is supported by the Boone and Crockett Club, Congressional Sportsmen?s Foundation and other hunting organizations. Read more

The Humane Society of the United States has many “fronts” that work to ban hunting while at the same time raking in money and other commodities from the unsuspecting public. One such front is The Wildlife Land Trust (HSWLT). This “trust” is actually a covert affiliate that sways landowners into thinking that their donation of land, easements, or dollars helps wildlife – that is far from the truth. Read more

A continuing lack of moisture this spring has resulted in exceptional action by Gov. Rick Snyder. On May 25, the governor ordered a ban on outdoor burning in 49 counties in the northern part of Michigan. The Department of Natural Resources warns all residents that although rain has fallen in some areas, the risk of wildfires remains very high. Read more
