A Massachusetts state trooper shot a 66-year-old woman who was walking her dogs when he mistook her pets for a deer.
The trooper indicated that he had mistaken her dogs’ tails for those of deer. It’s sure time for a hunter’s safety refresher and an eye exam. More here…
Authorities say a Indiana man, who shot and killed a 17-year-old boy playing paintball games, says he mistaked the teen for a coyote in a wooded area on his property.

“Gray wolves are thriving in the Great Lakes region, and their successful recovery is a testament to the hard work of the Service and our state and local partners,” said Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe. “We are confident state and tribal wildlife managers in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin will effectively manage healthy wolf populations now that federal protection is no longer needed.”
Michigan officials are creating new rules to guide the state’s revised hunting program for young adults.
The minimum hunting age has been dropped and the new law permits youngsters under the age of 10 to hunt with an adult at least 21 years of age.
The mentor must have previous experience and hold a valid hunting license. Proposed rules call for the mentor to be within an arm’s length of a child carrying a weapon.
Regulations are expected be proposed at a Jan. 12 meeting of the Natural Resources Commission. The commission could vote on the plan in February, and licenses could be ready for sale in March.

Hunting and trapping are prohibited on these sites, many of which are donated to the HSUS. In fact, they boast that “recreational and commercial hunting and trapping will always be prohibited”.
Unfortunately, they garnered $5 million in donations last year alone for this trust.

(Columbus, Ohio) – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today that gray wolf populations in the Western Great Lakes region have exceeded recovery goals and should no longer be protected under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Once official, this move will return wolves to state management in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and some portions of adjoining states.
In an even bigger victory for sportsmen, the Service also announced that it has reversed its previous view that two wolf species exist in the Western Great Lakes region. Read more
