The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will host open houses on Monday, June 25, in Traverse City and Tuesday, June 26, in Kalkaska to provide information and receive public comment on proposed forest management treatments for 2014 in the Traverse City management unit, which includes Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau and Manistee counties. The Department of Natural Resources recently announced that the Cooks Bay boating access site on Manistique Lake in Mackinac County will be temporarily closed from June 18 through July 2 for maintenance at the facility. Read more
(Columbus, OH) –California Senate Bill 1221, a bill that will ban the use of hounds to hunt black bears and bobcats, passed the state’s Senate today. The passage of SB 1221 by the senate casts a dark cloud over the future of all hunting and wildlife management in California. Senate Bill 1221 passed with a vote of 22 to 15 in favor. Read more

SCI Urging Senate to Pass H.R. 4089
Washington, D.C. – Safari Club International (SCI) members will participate in more than 170 meetings this week with members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate on behalf of hunters everywhere. SCI’s lobby day on Capitol Hill represents the largest annual gathering of U.S. hunters in Washington, DC. This year’s focus will be working with the U.S. Senate to pass H.R. 4089, the Sportsmen’s Heritage Act of 2012. Read more
