FBI 9MM Contract Awarded to Winchester Ammunition

EAST ALTON, Ill.  – Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for its Duty and Frangible training 9MM pistol ammunition. Winchester also received a contract from the FBI as the primary source for .40 S&W pistol ammunition in fall, 2017.

The 147 gr. bonded jacketed hollow point (JHP) duty cartridge selected by the FBI is designed with patented technology that utilizes a reverse-jacketed, bonded bullet that can penetrate a wide variety of intermediate barriers while maintaining very consistent target penetration and reliable expansion. The nickel-plated cartridge prevents corrosion and ensures smooth feeding and extraction. Flash suppressed powder is used in this cartridge to maintain an agent’s night vision and meet the FBI’s stringent darkened range evaluation. Read more

NRA’s Chris Cox to Serve on Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation Council

Fairfax, Va.—  The executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, will represent the 6 million members of the NRA on a newly formed panel that will advise the Trump administration on public land use policies on hunting and recreational shooting.

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke created the Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation Council to advise him and the Secretary of Agriculture on the establishment and implementation of policies regarding hunting, recreational shooting, and wildlife and habitat conservation. The Council will examine ways to benefit wildlife resources; encourage partnership among the public, the sporting conservation organizations, state, tribal, territorial, and federal government; and benefit hunting and recreational shooting sports. CMP Wants to Conduct a Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) at Your Club!

The Civilian Marksmanship Program is looking to expand the reach of its Small Arms Firing School beyond its regular schedule, which is held annually at the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio, the CMP Travel Games at Oklahoma City Gun Club, Camp Butner – North Carolina, CMP Talladega – Alabama, New England Games at Camp Ethan Allen – Vermont and the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix, Arizona.

Currently the CMP welcomes 400 to 800 attendees each year at the national Small Arms Firing School at Camp Perry as part of the National Matches.  CMP travel games SAFS programs serve between 40 and 100 participants per event. The CMP provides rifles and ammunition for all SAFS programs, home and away. Read more

Michigan: State Fish Hatcheries Welcome Family and Friends

For more than a century, fish have been reared at Michigan’s state fish hatcheries. If you’ve ever been curious about what happens at these unique facilities, the DNR encourages you to plan a visit with family or friends this summer and see this very cool work as it happens.

Located throughout Michigan, the DNR’s six state fish hatcheries rear and stock fish for a variety of reasons, including to:

    • Restore ecosystem balance.
    • Provide diverse fishing opportunities.
    • Rehabilitate low fish populations.
    • Reintroduce species that have disappeared from Michigan waters.

If you fish the Great Lakes and catch a marked and tagged fish, please report it. You’re helping the DNR collect critical information about the state’s fish populations and trends. The department has used a coded-wire tag program to “mass mark” various fish species in Michigan since the 1980s. Mass marking provides data that helps fisheries biologists determine the value of naturally reproduced fish versus stocked fish, as well as the lakewide movement of fish. Read more
