Savage Arms Issues Recall Notice on B.MAG Rifle Bolts (17 WSM)

SUFFIELD, CT- Savage Arms™ has issued a recall notice on B.MAG rifle bolts (17 WSM) after discovering that the bolt on some B.MAG rifles may inadvertently catch the safety button and slide it forward into the “fire” position. Savage has received no reports of accidents due to this condition and has identified a simple bolt handle and cap retrofit, which is available free of charge.

To avoid possible unintentional discharge or injury, Savage Arms has asked that consumers not use their B.MAG rifle until the bolt has been retrofitted. The company has established a dedicated website (http://www.savagearms.com/recall/bmagbolt/) and hotline (844-784-3301, Monday through Friday 8 am to 10 pm EDT) for consumers to identify the affected firearm, file a claim and receive a free retrofit kit. The kit includes simple, step-by-step instructions to replace the bolt handle and cap. Only B.MAG rifles with a serial number below J800928 are included in this recall. No other Savage firearms are affected by this condition.

Wyoming Receives $438,000 in RMEF Grants to Benefit Elk, Elk Habitat

MISSOULA, Mont.—The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation awarded grants to fund 39 projects in 14 counties that will improve habitat, elk research and hunting heritage across the state of Wyoming.

The grants total $438,865 and will directly benefit 15,214 acres spread across Big Horn, Carbon, Fremont, Hot Springs, Johnson, Lincoln, Natrona, Park, Sheridan, Sublette, Sweetwater, Teton, Washakie and Weston Counties. There are also five projects of statewide benefit. Read more

NSSF, NRA, 2AF, Seattle Businesses and Individuals Sue Over Gun and Ammo Tax

NEWTOWN, Conn.—The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, joined forces with the National Rifle Association, the Second Amendment Foundation, Seattle-based retailers and gun owners in filing a lawsuit today in King County Superior Court challenging the City of Seattle’s recently approved sales tax of $25 on each firearm sold and five cents for each round of ammunition (two cents for .22 caliber).

NSSF and other pro-gun groups fought the city ordinance, labeled a “gun violence tax,” but the City Council nevertheless approved the measure on Aug. 10 and Mayor Ed Murray signed it last week.

“NSSF has no alternative but to be an active party in this lawsuit against the City of Seattle’s attempt to interfere in the lawful commerce in firearms and ammunition on the grounds that it violates Washington State’s preemption statute that blocks cities from regulating the sale of firearms on their own.” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “The Seattle ordinance is nothing but a ‘poll tax’ on the Second Amendment and an effort to drive Seattle’s firearms retailers out of business.” Read more
