Aug. 18, 2012 Nashville, TN  –  Nationally acclaimed author and conservationist J. Wayne Fears was inducted today into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame at an induction ceremony and banquet held on the General Jackson Showboat in Nashville. Fears began his conservation work in the 1960s in Georgia where he conducted pioneering research with private land wildlife management and with management of river basin systems. For over a decade, he was the wildlife management chief of 500,000 acres owned by Gulf States Paper Corporationand managed Westervelt Lodge and hunting operations in Colorado, British Columbia and Alaska. Repeal of Permit to Purchase and Registration Passes Michigan Senate Committee

Yesterday, the Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation to repeal Michigan’s “permit-to-purchase” and registration requirements for handguns.  House Bill 5225, which seeks to replace the state handgun   “permit-to-purchase” requirement with the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), passed the committee by a 3 to 1 vote after passing in the state House of Representatives by an overwhelming 74 to 36 vote (found on page 14 of the House Journal) on June 13.  Additionally, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the two companion bills to HB 5225,  House Bill 5498, by a 4 to 0 vote, and House Bill 5499 by a 4 to 0 vote with one technical change.  These three pro-gun reforms will now be considered on the full Senate floor within the next several weeks.  At this time, no date has been set.
