Michigan DNR to begin renewed ground search for water source in Ontonagon County

Beginning this week, personnel from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will renew a ground search for the source of an unregulated water supply near a roadside access point in Greenland Township.

In April, the DNR said it would begin its new search for the water source once springtime weather conditions allowed.

The water has been used for drinking water and other needs for decades. The roadside access is located along the Bill Nichols Rail-Trail, off M-38 at the former site of Lake Mine, a historic mining community.

A group of state, county and local entities, including the DNR, is working cooperatively to find the source of the water to try to ensure it is a safe supply for drinking. The water source is believed to be on land administered by the DNR.

The DNR is under and order from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to disable the makeshift drinking spigot along the roadside and close off access to the water. Read more

Savage Arms Announces New 400 Legend in Over a Dozen Models

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts –– Savage Arms is proud to partner with Winchester® Ammunition to bring deer hunters several rifles chambered in 400 Legend in time for 2023 hunting seasons. The new hard-hitting, yet mildly recoiling, caliber means new opportunities for deer hunters across the country. The premise being bring modern projectiles and cartridge technologies to areas, states and hunters originally limited to shotgun slug or historically limited rifle caliber options. Due to the popularity of these cartridges that has been driven by performance—straight-wall options have gained traction outside of traditional shotgun slug areas as well. The 400 Legend will no doubt continue this legacy and Savage has responded by adding it to so many rifles in its lineup.

Knife Rights Sues Philadelphia Over Knife Ban

Friday, May 6th, 2023 – Gilbert, Arizona: Knife Rights has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the City of Philadelphia’s ban on “use or possess(ion of) any cutting weapon upon the public streets or upon any public property at any time,” as well as within 100 ft. of any school. Joining Knife Rights in the case are Knife Rights members Keith Fetsurka and Scott Mele. They are represented by attorneys John W. Dillon at the Dillon Law Group and William Sack.

Named as defendants are Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw and the City of Philadelphia. The lawsuit, Knife Rights, Inc. v. Outlaw, was filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Click here to read the complaint.

In its complaint, the plaintiffs allege that the City’s ban is unconstitutional and said that “there can be no question that knives are “arms” protected under the plain text of the Second Amendment.…And indeed, the Supreme Court made clear in [NYSRPA v. Bruen] that the Second and Fourteenth Amendments protect the right to acquire, possess, and carry arms for self-defense and all other lawful purposes-inside and outside the home.” Read more
