WASHINGTON – Thousands of temporary seasonal jobs with the Forest Service and its partners are available this summer and officials say now is the time to begin the application process.
“Due to the nature of much of our work, such as wildfire fighting and seasonal recreation programs, we anticipate hiring many temporary workers,” said U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell. “These jobs will provide economic relief for many unemployed Americans and help stimulate local rural communities.”

Ethanol and Old Outboard Boat Engines

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Ever since E10 gasoline (gas containing 10% ethanol) became widely available several years ago, the nation’s largest recreational boat owners group, BoatUS, has received hundreds of calls and emails complaining about boat engine problems. The majority of complaints concern older outboard motors, those made before about 1990. Bill Offers Free Fishing to Vets

A bill that would provide free fishing and hunting licenses to disabled Michigan veterans made its way through committee Tuesday.  Introduced by state Rep. Holly Hughes, R-White River Township, the proposed legislation was sent by the House Natural Resources, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee to the full House for consideration.  The committee voted unanimously to approve the bill. Daffodils survive March freeze

Above, daffodils are seen with a hunting shack, The Chalet, in the background.  After temperatures in the 20s last night, it appears little damage was done to early bloomers, although some were harmed.  Fortunately, in Shiawassee County, Michigan, our fruit trees have yet to blossom and appear to have survived so far.  However, plenty of time remains before we’re beyond the threat of frost.
