Straight-Wall Cartridges in Michigan’s Southern Zone III

GW:  This bill died last year and has been brought back to life by Representative Matt Lori, whom I worked with last year on this bill.  The arguments against the bill are lame.

1)  “… could create the perception of a public safety risk…”  So, educate the uninformed.

2)  “Allowing certain rifles that shoot straight-walled cartridges could result in conservation officers having to enter privately-owned land to check cartridges…”  Since the DNR doesn’t enter privately-owned land to check – for the sake of checking – anything else, what’s the big deal about checking calibers.  Same with pistols in the Zone III during deeer season.  How do they know a pistol meets the requirements – minimum caliber, no centerfire cartridges, etc?  They don’t!  And, what has been the issue with this over the last decade?  None.

Get on with it!

U.S. District Court Dismisses Lawsuit to Ban Traditional Ammunition

Obama Administration to Sign U.N. Arms Trade Treaty “In the Very Near Future”

As we reported last month, on April 2, the United Nations General Assembly voted 153-4 to pass the Arms Trade Treaty, with the United States voting in favor and several countries abstaining. The vote in the General Assembly pushed the treaty process forward after negotiations twice failed to deliver on the goal of developing the treaty by consensus. The Obama Administration is expected to sign the treaty soon after it is opened for signature on June 3. Read more

Beretta Issues Statement on New Maryland Gun Control Law

The firearm companies owned by Beretta Holding in Maryland-Beretta U.S.A. Corp., Benelli U.S.A. Corporation and Stoeger Industries, Inc.-have all been deeply concerned about Governor Martin O’Malley’s effort this year to impose broad new restrictions on the rights of Maryland citizens to buy firearms, as well as on the types of firearms and firearm magazines they can acquire. The Companies have submitted comments before the Maryland legislature and to the press condemning these efforts and stating that the Governor’s anti-gun activity is causing them to evaluate whether they want to remain in this State. CCRKBA Says Coburn Amendment Made Sense, Blasts Senate

BELLEVUE, WA – A proposal by Sen. Tom Coburn to expand gun rights made sense, and Senate anti-gunners who opposed the measure should be held accountable by voters, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said Thursday.
Sen. Coburn’s proposal would have allowed armed private citizens to legally carry firearms on Army Corps of Engineers lands in states where carrying firearms for personal safety is already legal. The vote was 56-43, four votes shy of a required 60-vote threshold. Read more

NSSF Dumps Reed, SHOT Management Still Undecided

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Reed Exhibitions to terminate the agreement the parties had for the management of the SHOT Show®. Accordingly, effective immediately, Reed Exhibitions will no longer be manager and producer of the SHOT Show. Read more
