11,101 FATAL AND 467,300 NONFATAL FIREARM VICTIMIZATIONS OCCURRED IN 2011

WASHINGTON–Firearm-related homicides declined 39 percent and nonfatal firearm crimes declined 69 percent from 1993 to 2011, the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announced today. Firearm-related homicides dropped from 18,253 homicides in 1993 to 11,101 in 2011, and nonfatal firearm crimes dropped from 1.5 million victimizations in 1993 to 467,300 in 2011. Read more

Pincus Attacked by Anti-Gunners for Home Defense Advice

NRA speaker Rob Pincus is under heavy fire for remarks made at the National Rifle’s Association’s Annual Meeting last week when he suggested putting gun safes in kids’ bedrooms. The comments and video were picked up by The Huffington Post and The Blaze.

Even Bette Midler got in the bashing, calling Pincus an “idiot” via Twitter.
In the video, Pincus said there would be some “emotional pushback” to his suggestion, but also stated that there is “absolutely nothing wrong with staging the gun where you’re most likely to barricade” during an intrusion.

On Wednesday, the Senate rejected a gun control agenda that President Obama has adopted as his own over the last few months, but to which other gun control supporters have bitterly clung for years: banning an ever-lengthening list of semi-automatic firearms, banning magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, and expanding background check requirements to require government permission for many transfers of firearms among private citizens. The Manchin-Toomey Amendment, which is co-sponsored by anti-gun Sens.
