Californian Hunters Rally Against AB-1221

SACRAMENTO-Special to The Outdoor Wire From Western Outdoor News —Hundreds of houndsmen and women and other conservationists and concerned interests showed up on the west steps of the State Capitol on Friday for a rally to urge Governor Brown to veto SB 1221, a bill that would ban the used of hounds for hunting bears and bobcats in California. Safari Club presents Michigan hunters with sporting arms at September NRC meeting

Three Michigan deer hunters were recently rewarded for their participation earlier this spring in the Department of Natural Resources’ state harvest survey. The trio was presented with sporting arms by Safari Club International at the September meeting of the Natural Resources Commission in Lansing.

Donald Fry, 66, of Marlette; Londa Merrill, 62, of Cornell; and Donald Weiderman, 49, of Mendon, were presented, respectively, with a Remington rifle, a PSE compound bow and a Traditions muzzleloader – simply for returning their Department of Natural Resources surveys in a timely manner. The winners’ names were selected randomly from the pool of all hunter surveys received. Read more

9th Annual Perry Youth Hunt Extravaganza

The 9th annual Perry Youth Hunt Extravaganza is set for September 22 and 23 and will be held at the Perry VFW, 601 N. Main (M-52 just south of Lansing Road a few blocks with the Howitzer on the front lawn.  Can’t miss it.)  The event is a celebration of a new crop of big game hunters as part of Michigan’s legendary whitetail deer hunting tradition.

First Deer

It works like this: Beginning at 10 AM Saturday the 22nd to approximately 8 PM and Sunday the 23rd, licensed youth deer hunters may register for the event by harvesting a deer during the two-day hunt and bringing it to the VFW for photographs, which will become part of a running display for all to see.  (If the weather is cool enough, deer can be hung at our buck pole). Those licensed youth hunters not harvesting a deer may only register after hunting is concluded on Sunday beginning at 7:30 PM.  Read more
